Matt Costa
First of all I'd like to say that last night was one of my favorite shows.
The drive there was pretty creepy and really ghetto once leaving the interstate, but it was worth it. Once we made our way inside and then to the actual room, we'd found out that Johnathan Rice had already started playing. I believe, however that we witnessed the best parts of his set. I can't say I've ever seen someone forget the words to their own song, albeit a new song, but it was still a great performance nonetheless. Then of course after a couple minutes Matt Costa came on. Despite being behind several rows of extremely tall frat boys, I could see pretty good. The set was an hour and a half and every song was wonderful. The last song (aside from the encore) was a-mazing. Oh, he is a damn good performer. Incredible. As I decided and as Karmen somehow knew I was going to say, he is my Kevin Devine.
After that killer of and ending, I bought a shirt and we hung out in the hall to listen to his two-song encore. Then we started back to the car, or so I thought. Somehow we ended up in the building's kitchen and laundry room. We finally made it back up three flights of stairs, looking incredibly dumb when guess who we run into. That right, Matt Costa! I was in shock, my jaw hung open like a zombie and I could not speak correctly. He is so may I interject. Then he says "hey" and I say it back. He asks if we're going out the door and holds it open for us. We are polite little girls and say "thanks". Then as little girls often do in the presence of boys, we giggled. I giggled because I am such a dumb girl with a crush. Karmen giggled just because I'm dumb. Then, and aside from the boys on stage, came the one-liner of the night. "Sara, for once your bad sense of direction worked out." or something along those lines.
Anyways, the show was great fun and I'm for sure going to be at his next show near me. In the meantime I'm going to keep listening to him in repeat.
