Quincy & Torch Lake Railroad yard plus 1

There was a copper mining industry Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula from 1846 to well into the past century The Quincy & Torch Lake served the Quincy Mining Company. The Quincy Mining Company was founded in 1846 to mine native copper deposits on property near Hancock, Michigan. During the course of the next one hundred and fifty years, the company produced 1.5 billion pounds of refined copper and issued $30 million in shareholder dividends. In 1976, I shot the following photos at the yard of the Q & TL. Only three structures remained. The engine house and a rectangular water tank. I understand there are restorations ongoing of mining era facilities and trains. One of the Q & TL engines was running at the museum at Greenfield Village.

Overview of yard with engine house.

Nicole Fox

I just got a very excited phone call from my mother saying "So I was flipping through People Magazine today at work, and guess whose ad I saw, right at the beginning?"

At first I had no idea what she was talking about, because she gave me absolutely no context. So I had to think for a moment about what I who I would possibly care about seeing in an ad in People. Then it clicked. Nicole.

Apparently they are running a full page covergirl ad with her in this weeks People. My mom said it's gorgeous. Have they done this before? I don't remember ever actually seeing any print ads for covergirl featuring any of the previous winners, especially in something as well known as People. Just the "My Life as a Covergirl" spots and back cover of Seventeen magazine.

I think I am going to go out to the grocery store and pick up this week's people, so I can scan in the ad.

I figured since I typed this out I might as well include some pictures. I feel like we might have seen some of these before, but I'm not sure. I assume if we have, they'll at least be new to some people.

Beautiful banisters of the ruined house in the city of Kashira, Moscow region, Russia

I always stop to gaze at these amazing banisters on my way from the Assumption cathedral to the open swimming pool. These banisters is the only part of the house on a high bank of the Oka river which has survived. It's the perfect setting for taking "atmospheric" pictures. The pictures were taken in mid-November and early October this year.

oh dear...

i just read this on the deadformat forum:

So I e-mailed Triple Crown records just seeing if there were any plans for Northstar vinyl as I had heard it was happening and also asked about a Your Favorite Weapon Repress. Here is what they had to say.

Hey Brian,

Yes Northstar will be released (Pollyana) on vinyl early '10 with some
bonus tracks. Hoping to get YFW out by the end of '10 on vinyl been
talking to Brand New about that, but Devil & God will be out early '10 as
well.
Make sure to follow us on Facebook & Twitter for info on those.

TCR

well. lets have at it.
i just started following triplecrown (twitter.com/3crown) and im already seeing talk of the northstar vinyl. so even though this is brand new, and we can never trust any sort of rumor about them, i suppose we have a little glimmer of hope poking through here.

PEPE SILVIA MOTHERFUCKERS

[info]rabidgod

(no subject)

My body is eating itself. I am down to a size 16 in pants and that has never been possible in my sort-of-adult life. I am not sure what to think, and it makes me very uncomfortable when my mother calls me "Ms. Slim-And-Trim." I need new clothes pretty badly, because everything I have is larger and falls off my body. WTF.

I had a sort of good time in NY. On one hand, it was nice to be not in my house for a somewhat prolonged period of time. On the other, I didn't really do anything that special. But I guess that's okay. I saw some really awful vagina art, some really good not vagina art, some shitty experimental art/filmmaking, etc. I saw things? I have eyes. I also walked, like, six miles to look at a fucking bridge. I no longer have extreme anxiety about the city either, which is really good, I think.

I've been kind of upset lately that I have no ~discernable~ talent, and I really don't have the monetary means to pursue any of my dreams. I can't even pinpoint what my "dreams" are, either. I don't want to be so useless! But I don't know how to be anything else. I think I'm kind of smart and I could do something with that, but it's difficult to, uh, awaken the motivation or drive required to do anything with it.

I'm very sleepy because I woke up at 4.45a and I'm pretty sure my parents do all that is humanly possible to ruin my naps. Neither of them talk in "normal" voices--they're almost always very loud. They slam doors. They call me. They are obnoxious. I always ask my mother why she talks so much because I am not really a talky person with most people, and she always blah blah blahs at me in response. Kind of counterproductive, imo, but whatever. Oh well.

TLC

So, I just saw a commercial for Caltrate. It shows a baby with her mother, and then shows the baby now as an adult with a daughter of her own. She wraps a thin blanket over her daughter's shoulders as the voiceover goes on about "Tender Loving Caltrate".

The daughter with the blanket is totally Kelly/Erin.

Sorry, no video, and her imdb profile is sadly missing it. Shocking, I know.

Just... um... in case you cared I guess?

Edit: There's a video in the comments now. I know you guys really care about this! :)

Did this once before, giving it another whirl. 8D

Hello, hello! I have a fairly long friends list, but I figured I could use some more video game lovers around.

Name: Wolf of Dreams

Age: 23

Consoles: Wii, XBOX 360, PS3, Nintendo DS and the good ole' trusty PS2. I would like to get a PSP so I can play Final Fantasy Dissidia and Crisis Core.

Favorite Games: Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10, Okami, (if my username's anything to go by) Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, The Last Remnant, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil 4 (I have yet to play five) Silent Hill 3 (I'd love to get around to playing a couple of the newer installments...eventually) Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Star Ocean: Till The End of Time, Lost Odyssey, Shadow of the Colossus, Eternal Sonata, the Xenosaga series, Fable II, and recently, I've rediscovered my addiction to Pokemon. I'm planning to play some of the old school FFS like 5 and 6. What can I say? I've got a softspot for the classics. A few upcoming games I've got my eye on are The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 13, and FFXIII Versus. I'm a HUGE Final Fantasy Fan. I've loved the games ever since I was 12. 8 was the one that hooked me onto the series. :D

Right now, I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins.

Introduction: Uhhhhm, I'm not very good at these. I'm a bit of a shy, wary person, but I'm friendly, I promise! I'm not the best commentor, but I do comment if I have something to say. I'm getting back into internet roleplaying. I'm currently getting my life back in order after losing my house in a fire earlier this year, and just kind of going with the flow, as cliche as it sounds. I try to take a zen, balanced approach to life. I don't watch too much TV, but I do have a handful of favorites like House M. D., Dexter, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the very ocassional Anime. Right now, I'm quite enamored with Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. It's a beautiful Anime. I don't update my LJ as often as I should. I rant. I rave. I fangirl. I bitch about my crazy family. I even post the (very)ocassional bit of fanfiction. I enjoy quite a bit of music, and have a special fondness for symphonic metal like Nightwish, Within Temptation, and Lacuna Coil. My IM handles are in my profile if anybody wants to hit me up for a chat. I'm rarely on Yahoo, but you can almost always find me on AIM.

I...guess that's it. Anyways, if anyone wants to friend me, let me know. My LJ is Friends Only. Comment here or there if you'd like to friend me. :)

I Have a DVD Question:

Okay, I haven't picked up the Season 5 DVD yet. But yesterday I heard Rich Sommer talking about the Alex storyline--that he was originally scheduled to be in three episodes (1) meet cute, (2) bar flirting, (3) confess love to Pam. But the fan reaction was so strongly negative that they cut his second appearance and re-wrote the third appearance to the "New York is better for you than Scranton" bit that we saw.

QUESTION: Did that cut flirting scene make the DVD?

NOTE: He was in Weight Loss and Customer Survey, so it would have been one of the four episodes between: Business Ethics, Baby Shower, Crime Aid, or Employee Transfer.

Abandoned in Italy

abandoned structure with Fall Warning sign

My first post, so let me know if I'm doing it wrong.

The photo above is linked to a flash gallery on my website that contains about 70 photographs of an abandoned structure here in Italy, just North of Rome. I'm not sure what the building's use was, but it did have a lot of interesting things in it.
The gallery starts with 2 abandoned car shots in there, and then 3 of a road flyover from Rome which shouldn't be there, but I hope no-one is too upset as the following 66 are all in the one abandoned location.
The (Lightroom) gallery is just that, no adverts or even any links into my website itself, it takes 20 seconds or so to load up the pics but then it's pretty quick.

For my next post I'll link the pictures directly in the post, but I don't have time right now, but I thought you might be interested in the pictures as they are.

The camera was a Konica Minolta Dynax 5D with a couple of zooms, and the pics were taken a couple of years ago. I went "artistic" on them in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Thanks for looking, Paul.

Bioshock 2 Special Edition

Bioshock 2 Special Edition!

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/bioshock2se.html

Look! You can pre-order it now and that there is a list of what it comes with. It's $99.00! Don't forget - if you pre-order, you'll get two exclusive characters for the multiplayer!

If you don't want to preorder the special edition, I still recommend preordering it for the extra characters for the multiplayer, since they will come with any pre-bought edition of the game, special or normal.

I'm kind of boo it doesn't come with the Big Daddy action figure the original special edition of Bioshock did, but it comes with a lot of fabulous goodies anyways. Especially the Orchestral soundtrack from the original game omg. I'm excited anyways.
